Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asserted that the conflict in Gaza will persist until Hamas is "destroyed." This assertion follows a ceasefire proposal presented by US President Joe Biden, which included a three-stage plan aimed at reducing hostilities.
President Biden's proposal outlined an initial six-week phase during which Israeli forces would withdraw from populated areas in Gaza. The plan also called for a prisoner exchange, where several hostages, including women, the elderly, and the wounded, would be released in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
Despite this, Netanyahu has dismissed the possibility of a permanent ceasefire before the complete dismantling of Hamas's military and governmental infrastructure. In a statement issued on Saturday, he emphasized that Israel's conditions for ending the war remain unchanged.
"Israel’s conditions for ending the war have not changed: the destruction of Hamas’s military and governing capabilities, the freeing of all hostages, and ensuring that Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel," Netanyahu stated.
