Myanmar Conflict Continues

Myanmar Conflict Continues

A week ago, one of Myanmar’s most powerful ethnic armed alliances launched a coordinated attack on a dozen military outposts in northern Shan State, along the country’s eastern border with China. Code-named Operation 1027, the plan is to assert and defend territory against Myanmar military.

On October 9, 2023 reports came out that the Myanmar military attacked a village hosting hundreds of displaced civilians in Kachin State. This strike said to have killed 28 civilians, including 11 children, and injuring 60. The Human Rights Watch has called this a war crime after investigating the scene and conducting interviews. They ruled out the possibility of this being caused by any opposition armed groups as no evidence was found of them being in the vicinity.

Who are the key players?

Since the February 2021 coup started here are players. You have the Myanmar Military vs the National Unity Government (NUG) and the armed wing of the group, the People’s Defense Forces (PDF), since the coup started there are many other resistance groups like CDF, CNDF, KNDF, MRDA, and the list goes who do have their own tensions amongst each other but they all share the same goal of ending military rule.
