Romanian Mercenaries Stranded in Congo as Rebels Corner Forces

According to a recent report from Romania-Insider, dozens of Romanian mercenaries have become stranded in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) amid a rebel offensive.

These mercenaries were allegedly employed by Horatiu Potra, an associate of pro-Russian politician Calin Georgescu, and sent to Goma to support Congolese government forces.

The Romanian mercs were contracted by the DRC in a bid to stop the rebel advance.

As the M23 rebels advanced, nearly 300 foreign mercenaries including the Romanian contingent became stranded. The rebels had cornered these mercenaries along with remnants of the Congolese army.

The situation underscores the complexities of foreign involvement in the DRCs internal conflicts and highlights the challenges faced by mercenaries operating in volatile regions.
