Russia is carefully considering a proposed 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, with officials stating they are awaiting further details from the United States before making any commitments. The ceasefire proposal follows discussions between Ukraine and U.S. officials, during which Ukraine signaled its willingness to accept the terms.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Russia is studying the outcomes of recent diplomatic efforts and is awaiting clarification from American officials before responding. Russian leaders have maintained that any peace agreement must acknowledge the territorial realities of the conflict and address Russia’s long-term security concerns.
President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that Russia will not retreat from its advances and that any resolution must protect Russian-speaking populations in Ukraine. Additionally, Russia has repeatedly expressed opposition to Ukraine joining NATO, arguing that such a move would threaten its national security.
Meanwhile, the U.S. has agreed to resume military support and intelligence-sharing with Ukraine, following Kyiv’s endorsement of the ceasefire proposal. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has described the situation as being in Russia’s hands, emphasizing that negotiations are the only viable path toward ending the war.
Despite diplomatic discussions, hostilities on the ground continue. Ukraine has reported ongoing Russian strikes, while Russian officials claim to have recaptured additional territory near the border. As both sides assess the ceasefire terms, the possibility of a temporary halt in fighting remains uncertain, with Russia insisting that any agreement must align with its strategic interests.
