A shooting at a rally for former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, is being investigated as an attempted assassination, according to law enforcement officials.
The incident resulted in the death of the shooter and one attendee, with two other attendees critically injured. Trump’s campaign reported that he is “fine” after being quickly removed from the stage and is currently being evaluated at a local medical facility.
Officials identified the shooter as a 20-year-old man from Pennsylvania. The State Police and FBI have identified the deceased and injured individuals but have not released their names.
Kevin Rojek, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office, stated, “Tonight we had what we’re calling an assassination attempt on our former president, Donald Trump.” He added that no motive has been identified at this time.
The Republican Speaker of the House announced that a full investigation will be conducted, stating, “The American people deserve to know the truth.” He also mentioned that Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle and other officials from the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI would be called to testify before committees as soon as possible.
