Trump’s border promises and standoff with Colombia

Trump sent 1500 active duty us service members, additional air and intelligence assets to the border to help aid the CBP.  1,000 army personnel and 500 marines with 2,500 active-duty personnel already in the region, the additional 1,500 troops will represent a 60% increase in active-duty forces since the president was sworn in on January 20th.

A nationwide immigration crackdown on Sunday resulted in the arrest of 956 people, federal agencies with newly expanded detention powers were involved in the raids in a number of cities including Chicago, Newark and Miami. His predecessor Joe Biden carried out an average of 311 immigration deportations daily, according to ICE.

The U.S. and Colombia averted a potential trade war on Sunday after the White House announced that Colombia had agreed to accept deported migrants transported on U.S. military aircraft.

President Donald Trump had previously threatened to impose tariffs and sanctions on Colombia in response to its earlier refusal to allow military flights carrying deportees.

However, in a statement released Sunday evening, the White House confirmed Colombia agreement to the terms, prompting Washington to withdraw its planned penalties.

“The Government of Colombia has agreed to all of President Trump terms, including the unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia returned by the United States, including transport on U.S. military aircraft, without limitation or delay,” the statement read.
