Trump’s Tariffs on Chinese Imports Expected to Average 20%, Not 60%

Although Donald Trump campaigned on implementing 60% tariffs on all Chinese imports, Goldman Sachs’ chief economist Jan Hatzius predicts the actual tariffs will average around 20% for most goods.

Speaking at the Atlantic Council in Washington, Hatzius suggested that certain key items, such as solar panels, steel, and aluminum, might face higher tariffs of up to 60%.

Overall, he described the likely outcome as relatively moderate, with tariff increases averaging 20%, but not uniformly reaching 60%.
