HB Co Exclusive: DSHRG Rusich: Frontline Operations

I recently talked w/this unit’s telegram channel (admin and supposed active service member) who shared what they are currently going through & obstacles they’re facing. Here’s what they had say:

A light infantry unit known as DSHRG Rusich continues to operate within the “Special Military Operation zone”, focusing on reconnaissance and support missions under urban combat conditions. Once characterized by direct assault operations, the unit now relies primarily on unmanned aerial and ground systems due to personnel shortages and sustained operational fatigue.
According to a member of the unit, Rusich’s current responsibilities involve providing reconnaissance, fire support, and logistical assistance to allied units.

Missions are described as long-term and routine, with a focus on identifying enemy positions and facilitating supply efforts through drone operations. Despite no recent assault actions, the unit retains its light infantry designation and continues to engage in frontline duties.

Rusich has participated in multiple conflicts over the past decade, including engagements in Syria, Libya, Donbas (2014), and the ongoing Ukraine War. The unit has also conducted security training missions in Central Africa and Sudan. Historically, it has carried out assault objectives focused on direct enemy engagement.

The soldier described current challenges as stemming from extended deployments without rotation, limited coordination between supporting formations, and ongoing supply pressures. Civilian assistance remains active, providing most material needs. The soldier characterized the opposing force as “strong” and “essentially equal,” noting that both sides experience comparable casualty (both 200s &300s) and evacuation difficulties.

In Russian military terms, “200” refers to killed in action (KIA) and “300” to wounded in action (WIA).

Since 2022, Rusich has operated under the Russian Ministry of Defense, following its earlier affiliations with the Wagner PMC and Donbas militia groups during earlier phases of the conflict.
